PRESTON, England, February 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
What do you get when you combine a crypto-currency with a massively multiplayer online game? The answer is Huntercoin.
Bitcoin, an electronic, unforgeable form of currency that can be traded online for goods and services and ultimately converted into physical money, has taken the world by storm. Others have appeared since, quickly followed by a stampede of alternatives ('altcoins'), many of which didn't really differentiate themselves from the originals other than having an amusing name.
But this new kid on the block is worth some close attention. It combines the popular world of Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming (MMOG) with crypto-currency, allowing players to effectively earn coins for their use of strategy, guile, and teamwork. The players essentially earn Huntercoins (HUCs) while they play.
Because HUCs are human-minable, with a novel implementation of the crypto-currency algorithms, no specialist hardware or knowhow is required to earn them. Huntercoin is a fairer and more accessible way to experience the rich and varied world of crypto-currency, making it more appealing to the general public.
How does it work?
The game consists of a top-down 2D virtual world reminiscent of Gauntlet from the 1980s. Players control 'hunters', which they move around the map, collecting coins and banking them at specific locations. This effectively transfers their valuable hoard into their electronic wallet. From there coins can be traded on exchanges like Poloniex for Bitcoins and real-world currency.
Is it a good investment?
Huntercoin shares all of the recognisable features of mainstream crypto-currencies. It's secure and one of the fastest-growing altcoins, reaching $1m within the first three days of trading. It also has a rapidly-growing community, having accumulated around 5,000 players so far.
At the very least, Huntercoin can claim a number of world firsts. For example, it is the first decentralised peer-to-peer Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). It is also the first crypto-currency game where the action takes place in something called the blockchain (at the heart of all crypto-currencies), so we might call it a Massively Multiplayer Online Crypto-currency Game (MMOCG). And, crucially, it is the world's first human-minable crypto-currency. More human effort equals more reward.
How do I get started?
Players can download the client software from the Huntercoin website and acquire one HUC from an exchange such as Poloniex. Visit http://www.huntercoin.org and start earning now!
