(MYFOX NATIONAL) - The fiancee of NBA star Richard Jefferson says there are "no hard feelings" after the San Antonio Spurs forward broke things off with her days before their wedding.
Kesha Nichols, a former New Jersey Nets dancer, told ABC News that the media has overexaggerated the situation and portrayed her as being the poor bride who was ditched at the altar. But Nichols said with the help of family and friends, she has stayed strong and is moving on with her life.
"That's my philosophy, just keep dancing for life," Nichols told "Good Morning America. "Just keep picking up the pieces and keep going."
Nichols said that this wasn't the first time they broke things off. The couple was engaged several years ago when Jefferson broke it off. They got back together two months after breaking up and gave it another try. Several days before the wedding, Nichols said the two couldn't work out their differences. It was then that they realized they may never be able to work things out. Then Jefferson sent Nichols an e-mail reaffirming their discussions.
They got on the phone and Jefferson expressed that he wanted to call off the wedding . Nichols told Jefferson that if they weren't going to get married, they could never speak again.
But Nichols said she isn't angry with Jefferson. "I have no hard feelings. I will always care about him. ... My heart is broken. I'll miss him as a friend," she said.
The $500,000 wedding was supposed to take place on July 11 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City.
Several media reports speculated that Jefferson broke off the marriage because he's gay. Jefferson himself has told the New York Post , "I'm not gay ... That couldn't be any further from the truth. I have nothing to hide."
